George Theriault has been flying northern Canada since the summer of 1934 when he began work
as a dock boy at the seaplane base in South Porcupine, Ontario. This series of stories chronicles his adventures
from Alaska to Labrador.
As a young pilot on the RCAF survey teams that charted the northwestern Arctic, he had the rare opportunity
to fish in uncharted lakes and rivers. His stories of seal and whale hunting along the northeastern coast
offers a rare glimpse of life with the native people.
When he established his own air service in Chapleau, Ontario in 1954, his skills as a bush pilot and
sportsman made him one of the most popular outfitters in northern Ontario. Numerous articles and
television shows have been written about him by outdoor writers who have accompanied him on fishing and
hunting trips.
Even today, George Theriault is still active as a commercial pilot, flying his own deHavilland Beaver
aircraft to James and Hudson bay each summer to fish for speckled trout and Arctic char in the northern streams.
