The Challenge

Foundation Goals

Foundation Organization & Leadership

The short-term strategy of the foundation is to generate sufficient resources to provide support for the Seaplane Pilots Association advocacy initiatives to combat selected challenges to seaplane access. Longer-range, the Foundation will build self-sustaining competence through a permanent endowment, from which only the investment returns will be granted to SPA in support of advocacy efforts.

Protecting Our Water Flying Heritage
Members of the SPA Foundation Board of Directors along with the board of the Seaplane Pilots Association have contributed generously during 2008 to breathe fiscal life into the foundation. The short-term goal of the SPA Foundation is to achieve $1,000,000 in contributions from those who love seaplanes, determined to make a difference by protecting our water flying legacy.

Long term, the SPA Foundation will provide the Seaplane Pilots Association with annual financial support sufficient to allow SPA to provide water flying advocacy nationwide.

SPA Foundation Priorities:
  • Protecting Waterway Access - Protecting seaplane waterway access nationally and regionally.
  • Safety – measures to enhance safe seaplane practices. A concern for “safety” is the #1 reason given by decision-makers for banning seaplanes from waters under their control.
  • Education – measures to educate decision-makers and the general public about seaplane operations, pilots, safety record, and environmental stewardship.
  • Legacy and Heritage - support/capture of seaplane legacy for future generations
