Background:
Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Randy's primary residence remains in Fort Wayne where he owns and operates a commercial and industrial design-build construction firm that he started as a remodeling business while in his teens. The business has enjoyed 24 years of growth and maturity, and now takes on commercial real estate sales and development projects.
Randy has been a lake and water enthusiast his entire life, and spends his weekends at his lakefront residence on Lake James in Stueban County. He learned to fly in 1995, bought a 1981 Piper Saratoga, and earned his instrument ticket. His enthusiasm for water led him to a seaplane rating and a 1998 Maule M-7-235 on Baumann straight floats. Randy has 1600 total flight hours, with just over 450 in the Maule.
Randy spearheaded the 1999-2000 campaign to prevent closure of lakes in Indiana to seaplanes. Working with SPA, he established seventeen private seaplane bases to conform with the state's legal requirements and founded the Indiana Seaplane Pilots Association to operate those private landing areas, which available for the use of all members of the Indiana Seaplane Pilots Association. He has gained extensive experience in working the the FAA, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Indiana Department of Transportation, and fosters a cooperative and professional spirit with these government agencies. His work has recently enabled Indiana's first seaplane seaplane-in, now an annual event held on Lake James and organized by Randy.
