| ARRIVAL & PROCEDURES - NEW |
|
Due to overcrowding and safety
concerns in past years, the Splash-In has been divided into two days, one for
factory-built and heavy homebuilt seaplanes, and the second for light sport and ultralight aircraft.
Further, several rules have been implemented to reduce the chance of conflicts, both in
flight and on the beach.
On arrival, remain clear of traffic inbound to Sun 'n Fun. Remain below 1000' MSL when
approaching from the north, east, or west. Make a left pattern for the lake, and land
well clear of congested areas. Obtain notams before departure. Use caution for powerlines
across the north end of the lake and a 687' radio tower NW of the splash-in area. See
area map for
details, no-fly zones, and limited obstacle information.
An operable two-way VHF radio (handhelds are acceptable) is required to participate in
the factory-built/heavy homebuilt event, or to utilize the north of end Lake Parker during the event.
All radio-equipped seaplanes arriving at or departing the north end of Lake Parker for
any reason during the event must communicate on 122.9 "Lake Control".
Pilots must obtain a safety briefing and display an appropriate colored briefing card
before departing the event (permanently or temporarily) or participating in events.
Parking spaces on the beach will be marked and reserved with signs distributed by the
Seabirds and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you received a sign last year,
bring it with you this year. Do not obstruct or beach at marked parking sites unless they are your own.
While factory-built and heavy homebuilt seaplanes are not permitted to attend the light sport/ultralight
event and vice versa, pilots may petition for permission to attend the event they would
otherwise be excluded from attending. Three petitions will be granted for each event to
outstanding and unique seaplanes, and these aircraft will be permitted at both events.
See the SeaBirds Chairperson two days prior to the event to apply for a waiver. |
