Lake Isabella Fly-In and Splash-In
Celebrate Seaplanes and Summer! Come to the 1st annual Lake Isabella Fly-In and Splash-in, at the Kern Valley Airport, L05, on Saturday, June 2 from 9 AM to 5 PM and enjoy the day socializing with other pilots on and off the water. Lunch is at 1 PM at the Airport Cafe. Speaker will be Rich Lach of the Recreational Aviation Foundation.
Amphibious seaplanes can tie down at the airport. Floatplanes with straight floats should tie up near the airport and walk a few tenths of a mile to the airport. The airport is seeking to promote the airport to local townspeople and pilots, so feel free to fly over the town, while adhering to minimum safe altitude regulation, when arriving at the airport. There is no fee for attending, except for camping, which is discounted to $5 per night per site.
The Airport Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch from 7 AM to 3 PM. Dinner is not available at the airport and the town is not within walking distance. If you plan to camp overnight, plan on providing your own dinner.
Tent camping is available for pilots who wish to camp overnight before or after the Splash-In. There is space for approximately 18 tents, on a first come, first served basis. There are no reservations or fees for camping. The campsite has running water, but no showers. Driftwood can be used to build fires, however, there are no grills, so bring your own if you plan to cook dinner. The site includes a half dozen picnic tables and two port-a-potties.
