Seaplane Compatibility Issues Report
Overview
What is "Seaplane Compatibility Issues"?

Seaplane Compatibility Issues is a detailed report on seaplane safety, noise, and jurisdiction
that was commissioned by the Seaplane Pilots Association to assist in opening waterways, tracking
safety trends, identifying safety problems, and providing legislative bodies with accurate
information about seaplane operations.

The report is a living document that follows the past 10 to 13 years of the NTSB accident
reports. All accidents that are water-related (i.e., are specific to seaplane operations, including
accidents during approach and takeoff from water) are tallied along with injury and fatality
information for both occupants and persons on the ground, the type of seaplane, and the
location of the accident. Also included in the report is information on noise and waterway
jurisdiction issues.

What's in store for the future?

The Seaplane Pilots Association is working to apply the research from the
Seaplane Compatibility Issues report towards identifying and developing
remedies for
the most frequent causes of accidents. We are also working towards obtaining
an accident rate -- the number of accidents per hour flown -- and working with
insurance companies to reduce rates based on the safety record. And of course,
the Seaplane Compatibility Issues report is already being used to
inform government officials and open new waterways to seaplane pilots across
the United States.
